Farm Pizza @ A Brewery Outside Of Austin

Everything is bigger in Texas. Including its breweries. And Jester King Brewery (13187 Fitzhugh Rd) is no exception. The craft beer haven is situated on 165 acres of farmland about 30 minutes outside of Austin. There are playgrounds for the kids, multiple seating areas — in a barn and out in the fields — and an events calendar that rivals that of a small town (on the evening I was there, so many revelers were playing “Drag Bingo” that they ran out of cards). There is also a food truck serving sandwiches and BBQ. But we’re here to talk about the pizza, which is available from the kitchen on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

What’s Unique: Pizza at a brewery is nothing special (in fact, these days it can be hard to find a brewery that isn’t serving pizza). But in a region of the country with such a strong food scene, the pies at Jester King stand out for being… worthwhile. Is it some of the best pizza you’ll ever have? Probably not. Is is among the best pizza I’ve had in the Austin area? It certainly is. There are a handful of rotating pies on the menu that change seasonally.

What To Eat: I ordered a cheese pizza and a Citron (garlic oil, fresh mozzarella, Calabrian chilis, sliced lemon, dill, and hot honey). The latter was the better of the two and it was a nice break in between multiple meals of BBQ and tacos. It’s the perfect place to enjoy some pies on a weekend evening as the hues from the setting sun color the sky.

What To Know Before You Go: Pizza is only served on the weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). The brewery gets crowded, but the wait for pies is reasonable. Pies range from $15-$18 and you should order one per person. They stop serving pizza at 8PM on Friday and Saturday and 7PM on Sunday, so this is not a spot for late night eats.
